Ian Holmes
Ian Holmes is a former headteacher who embedded physical activity at the heart of school culture, recognizing its wide-ranging benefits for students’ well-being and learning. His commitment to active education led to involvement in national and international research projects on whole-school physical activity. This included a short-term role at the University of Bradford, where he contributed to the development of the Creating Active Schools programme.
Previously, Ian was a co-director with us and co-authored our book, How to Move & Learn. During this time, he played a key role in developing our training and mentoring programmes, which are now widely and successfully used by schools and training providers.
Now working as an independent education consultant, Ian focuses on supporting school leaders with school improvement. He remains deeply passionate about reducing sedentary time across the school day and beyond, continuing to advocate for active and engaging learning environments.
